In 2006, we began an aggressive embryo transfer program, focusing on top cow families within our operation. These efforts were further intensified in 2009 and 2010 with the addition of more donor cows from Connealy Angus, Whitman, NE.

Early in 2010 we began using the Igenity® profile for Angus. All of the females currently being bred in our A.I. herd, as well as all donor cows owned by the McKellars, have been genomically profiled to assess their true genetic potential. We have found this tool to be invaluable in our selection process to produce higher quality, more predictable animals.

Our mission continues to be to use all the tools available to produce the highest quality bull for the commercial cow/calf operator, and the highest quality female for fellow registered Angus breeders. Our goal is for our cattle to cover all the bases of fertility, calving ease, growth, maternal ability and carcass traits, and to do so in a visually attractive, efficient package.

On March 31, 2011, we will host our 7th Annual Production Sale. This will be the first McKellar Angus sale to feature both bulls and heifers from the 2009-10 calving season. The sale will be televised live by Superior Productions. There will be 110 breeding age bulls, and 70 bred heifers, all of whom will be D.N.A profiled with the Igenity® Profile for Angus. The bulls have been developed on a self limiting ration, in large traps for ample exercise, with free choice Tifton 85 bermuda grass hay. The heifers have been developed on a high forage diet to properly develop themselves to be real world mother cows.
